Metal Music: Why Is It Still A Scapegoat? (Marilyn Manson, Rammstein Feature)

It's not uncommon to flick on the news nowadays and find some form of violence being reported on. That in itself is a shame, and it's a scary fact, but what is often being brought into the equation is music, and more often than not (that's being generous), it's being portrayed negatively. But why is this still happening?

Stereoboard Talks To Daniel O’Sullivan (Mothlite, Ulver & More) About His Many Projects

Someone really doesn’t want me to talk to Daniel O’Sullivan. I’ve tried to get him on the phone three times now and each time the signal has cut out. Fourth time lucky, the 32-year-old multi-instrumentalist calls me back and everything seems to be going according to plan. “Let’s keep our fingers crossed”, O’Sullivan suggests before we begin talking about his most recent released venture, the new album by his Mothlite project.

Stereoboard Look At The Secret Sets Of The Reading And Leeds Festivals

Usually, the biggest bands you'll find at festivals are nestled snugly (and rightfully) at the top of the bill. As the line-up is gradually revealed, more mammoth names join the fold, but then - just to keep fans on their toes - sometimes there are secrets lurking, too exciting for the poster.

Stereoboard Look At The History Of This Weekend's Reading And Leeds Festivals

Year in and year out, Reading and Leeds Festival signals the end of what many music lovers spend months waiting for: summer's festival season. While there are some others doused throughout September onwards, the final weekend in August always brings out massive names to see summer off with a bang, and 2012 is no different. This year plays host to names including The Cure, Foo Fighters, Florence and the Machine and the Black Keys, but what about the history of the festival?

The Best Of Modern British Music (Olympic Opening Ceremony Feature)

One thing the Olympics sought to do in its opening ceremony was celebrate some of the biggest hits and acts in Britain's history, and that in itself proved pretty nostalgic. Best Of British: Where Were The Classics? (2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony Feature)

Though the Olympics did a relatively good job in soundtracking the history and evolution of British music, it's unsurprising that some of the classics had to be left out. As more of a rock 'n' roller, the real big names that spring to mind are of an alternative nature, but there are some longstanding names in British music who weren't recognised in the list. And, since I'm sure Morrissey is crying in a corner somewhere, this is for you guys...

My Chemical Romance: Three Cheers For Ten Years (My Chemical Romance Feature)

Everyone seems to have a band that really provoked your love of music, and for me that band - gulp - is My Chemical Romance. So as today - July 23rd 2012 - marks the 10th anniversary of their debut record 'I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love', I thought it seemed the best time to ramble aimlessly about what made them so important and the transformations they've undergone in the last ten years. Stereoboard Look At Positives & Negatives Of Festivals & The Great British Summer (Festival Feature)

Hosting festivals across the summer is no coincidence. It's just a given that we'd rather spend days watching bands in the glorious sunshine as opposed to in the midst of a snowy winter. But that's not how nature works. "Oh, T in the Park's this weekend? Best make sure the sun's out." As a UK resident, we understand the unpredictability of our weather and that's probably a fair explanation as to why we always take wellies to festivals... just in case.

Tradegy At Music Festivals & Concerts (Radiohead, Guns N' Roses, The Who, Slipknot, Pantera Feature)

For many, going to shows is a staple hobby, a place for fun and revelling in your love of music. Music has an ability to unite people like little else can, yet we forget that everything in life has an element of risk and danger. A stark reminder of this came at Radiohead's recent Toronto show as the stage collapsed, killing a member of crew. Sadly this isn't the first fatal incident at a show, and sadly it won't likely be the last.

Sex, Drugs & Rock N Roll ...And Books! Stereoboard Look At Some Of The Genre's Best Reads (Feature)

I’m rather rubbish about writing about myself, so much so that my bio on every site is “I just like rock ‘n’ roll and books to be honest.” It pretty much sums me up. Hardcore metal bands aren't really what you'd expect to hear from mainstream radio. A genre of music that doesn't often get the same airplay, press and coverage as its commercial colleagues, it tends to be confined to specialist media. Luckily there are bands out there ready to smash these stereotypes and make a name for themselves as much in the mainstream as in their hardcore fan bases, and Sheffield based While She Sleeps are doing just that. Stereoboard caught up with guitarist and backing vocalist, Mat Welsh to talk about how the band are on the path to breaking out of their specialist mould.
