Take That Break UK Box Office Records

Take That’s Progress Live 2011 tour became the biggest Tour in UK and Irish history last Friday (October 29th) when a record breaking 1.34 million tickets were snapped up in less than 24 hours.  The band smashed their previous box office record set in 2008 with The Circus Live Tour more than doubling their own record for sales in a single day.

850,000 tickets went on sale at 9am and throughout the day the band added a further 11 dates to the tour to cope with demand, bringing to total number of shows, including Ireland, to 25 dates.

Massive demand for the tickets caused phone lines and websites across the country to jam as ticket agents struggled to cope with the unprecedented number of people trying to buy tickets. Ticketmaster alone had 20 million page impressions by early evening and BT said the national telephone network had received between three and four times the normal number of calls.

Takethat.com had 1.5 million views in October with 650,000 on Friday alone, 90% of those from the UK. As a comparison, ladygaga.com’s biggest month for UK traffic was March 2010 with 760,000 visits and her biggest ever day for UK traffic was 104,000 visits.
