The Strokes New Album Set For March Release

New York rockers The Strokes have spoken up about their upcoming studio album, claiming that the follow-up to their 2006 release, ‘First Impressions of Earth’ will be released “by March”. Speaking to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, the band discussed the sound of their new album, describing it as “classic”.

Bassist Nikolai Fraiture said: "Sonically, I feel it's the album which should have been made between Room On Fire and First Impressions Of Earth." However, the bassist also admitted that there were certain tensions during the initial writing sessions for the album last year: "We didn't really break up but we didn't see each other for a long time. When you get back together there was a lot of weird energy flowing around. There are different dynamics in the group in different ways."

The Strokes returned to the UK last summer for a number of major appearances (including a headline at the Isle of Wight festival), but the band surprised fans by not showcasing any new material. Fraiture was keen to explain the band’s motives as he said: "At those festival shows we wanted to give the fans what they wanted. Usually we're always in a room and changing stuff and doing it all together. It's all a learning experience. We didn't really want to play anything new because in the age of the internet we didn't want the new songs to be heard in a crappy way."

While The Strokes are yet to confirm even a title for their latest album, the band were quick to announce that they would be touring extensively in support of their upcoming release.
