Bloc Party may be dusting off their instruments and heading out of their lengthy hiatus, if reports are to be believed. Comments made by Ash frontman Tim Wheeler this morning have suggested that the band will be heading to the rehearsal room together soon to write and prepare for a new release.
Bloc Party guitarist (and resident Jonny Greenwood lookalike) Russell Lissack has been touring with Ash since his band entered a hiatus in October 2009. However, speaking to The Sun today, Ash singer Tim Wheeler has stated that his services are no longer available as he returns to join the Bloc Party fold.
Speaking about Lissack’s time with the band, Wheeler said: "Russell's been brilliant and we'll have him for our festivals hopefully. Then we'll have to think. I do enjoy having the second guitarist so we've got our eyes peeled."
Since the band decided to take a break, almost all the members have been keeping busy with side projects. Lead singer Kele Okereke ventured into his solo career, earning acclaim for his dance-inspired release ‘The Boxer’, while bassist Gordon Moakes has been thrashing with rock group Young Legionnaire. However, both Kele and Young Legionnaire have festival appearances booked for this summer, so the prospect of a Bloc Party release before Autumn is unlikely at best.
