King Post Kitsch - The Party's Over (Album Review)

The party's over but may the celebrations for this album long continue! I can't remember ever hearing an album quite like it – an infectious pop/rock/grunge number with all the sound elements of a raw, intimate gig. This 30 minute wonder spans genres, emotions and sounds to create a record that displays all of Charlie Ward's abilities.
Charlie Ward's angelic voice twists and morphs itself throughout this album, yet still manages to maintain that special quality that makes each song sound unique. You need only listen to the first two tracks to understand how diverse this record is, with 'Portland Street Pt. 2's' haunting tones contrasting with the ever-powerful 'Don't You Touch My Fucking Honeytone'. Songs such as 'The Werewolf Hop' and 'You Talk Too Much' bear such a single-like quality, it's hard to forget them. And Charlie Ward's skills don't end at the sound. The dark lyrics of 'The New Gang' are particularly memorable.
The closing track, 'Closing Time', draws audible inspiration from greats such as The Kinks and The Beatles but still manages to correspond with the album as a whole.
In all honesty, words do not do this album justice. Such albums are rare but when one like this comes along, you need to grab it and appreciate how each song fits together to create such a flowing and creative piece.
