Metallica & Megadeth To Form Hard Rock Supergroup

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine will have thrash metal fans foaming at the mouth after he told a Texan radio station he was eager to form a thrash supergroup - combining himself and members of the iconic Metallica.

The long-haired guitarist and vocalist was an original member of Metallica, until he was kicked out of the band just days before they began recording sessions for their now legendary debut album ‘Kill ‘Em All’. As much as a blow this must have been for Mustaine, he returned home and formed a new band – Megadeth.

The two metal groups had an on-going feud in which members from both would slate and abuse each other in press and interviews. Almost 30 years later, though, the feud has simmered down – and now Mustaine has revealed that he’d love to work with his old bandmates to create a record.

“I’ve talked to Lars [Ulrich – Metallica] and James [Hetfield - Metallica] about me and David [Ellefson - Megadeth] doing a supergroup record with Lars and James. Well, James never said ‘no,’ but it’s still kind of out there in the air. I’m gonna keep hammering on him. It’s on my bucket list.”

In the past the idea of the two band’s collaborating or working together would have been laughable as the two simply didn’t get on – but after Sonisphere’s one-off performance which saw ‘The Big Four’ of the thrash (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) all on stage at the same time, it was clear that any bad air between them had cleared.

Stereoboard would love to see the new supergroup materialise and will keep you updated on any news involving the bands – watch this space.
