Following last week’s announcement of their 2012 Up Close and Personal Tour, pop-rock quartet McFly have now revealed that they are to launch a new Battle of the Bands competition to find suitable support acts for the tour – see below for dates.
Inspired by the yearly competition run by the USA’s annual Warped Tour, McFly’s Battle of the Bands will allow fans to vote for their favourite act from the list of entrants. The group will then pick a winner from the Top 50 for each night on their 26-date spring tour.
For more details on the Battle of the Bands competition, go to the McFly website. All UK bands are eligible to sign up and entry is free from 12th October. To enter, bands will need to provide a photo and a YouTube video. Voting will then commence on the 1st November and will run until 12th January. Voting is free and open to anyone with a Facebook account. Fans can vote for as many bands as they like, but can only vote once for each band.
2010 saw the release of McFly’s fifth album ‘Above the Noise’, which included ‘Shine a Light’, the band’s biggest-selling single to date. A new DVD featuring footage from their Wembley Arena date earlier this year is expected to be released in December. McFly are currently working on their sixth album, which is likely to be released ahead of next year’s tour.
