The Feeling have always been a bit of a marmite kind of band. Too cheesy to be alternative and too guitar based to be pure pop - a band that have probably been described as a guilty pleasure on more than one occasion. Yet despite the doubters, The Feeling have managed to win an Ivor Novello Award, been Brit-nominated and have platinum selling albums under their belts. Not too shabby for a five year career and counting.
To celebrate their success so far, The Feeling are releasing a singles collection spanning their No.2 debut album 'Twelve Stops and Home', the No.1 selling 'Join With Us' and current LP 'Together We Were Made'. Filled with the bands' hit guitar pop singles as well as a few extras thrown in for good measure, this compilation is a perfect advert for the quintet.
'Singles' features a huge 11 singles from The Feeling's career so far. Earlier and more recognisable singles 'Sewn', 'Fill My Little World', 'Never Be Lonely', 'Love It When You Call', 'Rose' and 'I Thought It Was Over' leading onto the newer material and more recent singles 'Without You', 'Turn It Up', 'Join With Us', 'Set My World On Fire' and 'A Hundred Sinners (Come and Get It)'. A pretty impressive line up which includes their four top ten singles.
Along with the expected tracks, The Feeling have also included two album tracks on 'Singles'. 'Strange' is a new track that slots right into the greatest hits, and 'Leave Me Out Of It' is a great song that features none other than Sophie Ellis Bextor - pretty easy coup when your bass player is her husband!
Two more songs complete this singles collection. 'Feels Like Christmas' was a 2008 non-album single, and although it didn't do well in the charts, it fits perfectly onto the album at this time of year. The last track is a new version of single 'Rose'. You may have noticed the song providing the soundtrack on the new Burberry advert and this variation rounds off the past five years of The Feeling's career.
This lovingly put together collection perfectly illustrates the bands' unique vibrant breed of 70's inspired pop, their tendency for insanely infectious hooks, and is packed with career defining picks aplenty. No matter what your opinion of The Feeling, they've created and released some future pop classics and helped carve a niche market for guitar-tinged pop bands. If they can carry on making those catchy sing-a-long songs like they did at the start of their career, there's no doubt that in another five years time, a second collection of singles will be on its way to a place under your Christmas tree.
