Radiohead Tracks To Be Reworked By Classical Composer Steve Reich

A world-famous minimalist composer is set to rework two of Radiohead’s back-catalogue tracks into classical symphonies, as part of a composition entitled ‘Radio Rewrite’.

Composer Steve Reich will be using classic Radiohead tracks ‘Everything in its Right Place’ and ‘Jigsaw Falling into Place’, which are from the band’s ‘Kid A’ and ‘In Rainbows’ albums respectively, as inspiration for two new pieces, which will be performed by 13 musicians from London’s Sinfonietta Orchestra in March 2013 at the Southbank Music Festival.

While the tracks will be inspired by the Radiohead tunes, they won’t be a direct cover of them – with London Sinfonietta chief Andrew Burke saying: “I don't think Steve will be quoting these songs directly – I don't think that's his style. How he uses the songs as a starting point for what he does is going to be part of the excitement.”

Burke then went on to reveal how the idea came about, telling The Guardian: “It was the first time he'd met them as musicians and spoken to them at length. Jonny Greenwood played [Reich composition] ‘Electric Counterpoint’ – Steve saw this guy was seriously interested in his music and Steve became seriously interested in theirs.”

Radiohead are expected to announce a summer UK arena tour in the very near future – they’ve already revealed their US and European dates, and we expect the UK dates pretty soon. Stay with Stereoboard to keep up-to-date on the band, and check the link below if you’re interested in any of the US/European dates.
