Muse: 'Unsustainable Is Only Dubstep Track On The 2nd Law'

Fans of electronic rockers Muse had a bit of a shock when the trailer for their forthcoming new album ‘The 2nd Law’ revealed ’Unsustainable’, a track heavily influenced by dubstep - leaving some unhappy, some pleasantly surprised, and some were rather confused. If you were one of the unhappy ones, you’re in luck - because frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed that ‘Unsustainable’ is the ‘only track like that’ - and that the rest of the album is ‘very, very diverse’.
The band unveiled a different new single - ’Survival’ - earlier in the week, but rather than more dubstep, fans were greeted by the sound of Queen-style rock - for a track which has now been chosen as the official London 2012 Olympics song. Now Bellamy has revealed that the rest of the album is made up of a variety of genres - and there isn’t anymore dubstep.
“We threw that trailer out on YouTube, which has got an excerpt from one of the tracks that's on the album,” the vocalist told BBC Radio 1. “We wanted to show that the album's got lots of different faces. We've tried a bunch of new things, which the trailer gives a glimpse of.
“There's only one song that's like that. We've basically tried to do what Rage Against The Machine did with hip-hop in the 1990s and take a bit of the electronic world and dubstep and play it with real instruments. There's only one track like that, the rest of it is very very diverse.”
He continued on to reveal that they’d even gone as far as to record a ‘really jazzy brass number’ - complete with a saxophone solo!
“There's a bigger emphasis on groove, we've always tried to improve on that with every album and I think on two or three tracks we've really nailed it. There's a couple of tracks where we've captured the other side of us too, they're quite minimal. There's a really jazzy brass number, I even tried to get a sax solo.”
