Korean rapper/singer Psy, real name Park Jae-Sang, burst on to the scene earlier in 2012 when his video for ‘Gangnam Style’ became an overnight sensation, leading to an incredible number of copy cat videos and tributes. Psy has set his sights on global domination, and with a management deal in place with Justin Beiber’s manager Scooter Braun, he stands to be the biggest Korean pop sensation of all time. ‘Gangnam Style’ is released through School Boy Records.
Psy made a surprise appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6th, he joined VMA host Kevin Hart on stage to teach him some of those world renowned dance moves, much to the delight of the crowd. Psy also performed at the official MTV VMA pre-party with British boy band The Wanted.
A whole host of stars have already confessed their love for ‘Gangnam Style’. Britney Spears posted on Facebook asking if someone could teach her the dance, Robbie Williams spoke about the video on his official website, Nelly Furtado performed the dance at a live show, while Tom Cruise went on twitter to ask his fans if they thought Psy would make a good future co-star.
Psy looks set to be the first K-Pop artist to fully transfer from South Korea to a Global audience. K-Pop as a genre is now going through a period of mass globalisation and Psy’s success has become an integral part of this process.
