Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has announced a new solo album.
'Maya' finds the musician dropping his Trickfinger alias for the first electronic and dance music record under his own name. It's due out on October 23 via Timesig, the label of Aaron Funk, also known as Venetian Snares.
Dedicated to and named after his cat who recently passed away, 'Maya' is ushered in by Amethblowl, an enthralling rhythmic tour de force inspired by the musician's favourite music: 1991 to 1996 UK breakbeat hardcore and jungle. He said:
"Maya was with me as I made music for 15 years, so I wanted to name it after her. She loved music, and with such a personal title, it didn’t seem right to call myself Trickfinger, somehow, so it’s by John Frusciante."
Frusciante's return to the Red Hot Chili Peppers was announced through the band's social channels in December 2019, along with a confirmation of Josh Klinghoffer's departure.
