Shame Announce Second Album 'Drunk Tank Pink' And Socially Distanced UK Tour, Share New Song

Shame have shared details of their sophomore studio album.
'Drunk Tank Pink', the follow-up to 2018's 'Songs Of Praise', is due out on January 15 via Dead Oceans and finds the band taking a big stylistic jump from the raucous post-punk of their debut to a more sprawling, ambitious sound produced by James Ford.
It'll feature the previously released single Alphabet alongside the newly shared Water In The Well, a punchy yet playful track that marries harsh guitars and irregular, skewed percussion. It comes paired with a video directed by Pedro Takahashi, viewable below.
Discussing how the record was impacted by the band's time off the road and the mandatory end of live shows, singer Charlie Steen said:
"When you're exposed to all of that for the first time you think you’re fucking indestructible. After a few years you reach a point where you realise everyone needs a bath and a good night's sleep sometimes.
"You become very aware of yourself and when all of the music stops, you’re left with the silence. And that silence is a lot of what this record is about. The common theme when I was catching up with my mates was this identity crisis everyone was having. No one knows what the fuck is going on."
Guitarist Sean Coyle-Smith added: "It didn’t matter that we’d just come back off tour thinking, 'How do we deal with reality? I had mates that were working in a pub and they were also like, 'How do I deal with reality?' Everyone was going through it.
"For this album I was so bored of playing guitar. The thought of even playing it was mind-numbing. So I started to write and experiment in all these alternative tunings and not write or play in a conventional ‘rock’ way."
The announcement comes with news of a socially distanced tour in February, which will see the band playing some intimate shows across the UK. Tickets go on sale at 10am on November 27.
The gigs will precede their previously confirmed date at London's Electric Brixton on April 22.
