Griff has been named the winner of the Brit Awards' Rising Star prize.
The Hertforshire artist, aka Sarah Faith Griffiths, beat fellow nominees Coventry rapper Pa Salieu and pop star Rina Sawayama to take home the award, which recognises pop music's most promising up-and-coming acts. She follows in the footsteps of previous winners Celeste, Sam Smith and Adele.
Off the back of her triumph, the alt-pop star has shared details of her upcoming mixtape, 'One Foot In Front Of The Other', due out on June 11 via Warner Music.
The seven-track release, in Griff's own words, "is a collection of songs I’ve written during lockdown. It’s been weird making music in this time, not really experiencing real life, but I think what’s come out of feeling so uncertain about the future is knowing that all you can do is take another step. I've also produced the majority of this mixtape – I heard a stat that 2% of music producers are women, and so it feels important that as a young female in the music industry I should empower myself and continue to properly do it. It was challenging, but I hope in doing so 'One Foot In Front Of The Other' feels like a raw, emotional and unpolished body of work."
As a preview, head below to watch a video of the 20-year-old performing the track Black Hole live at Hackney Church. Cast across a bouncy synth melody and snappy drum beat, the song marks her first new material of 2021. You can also view the mixtape's artwork created by Kerry Dean and Elizabeth Fraser-Bell, along with its tracklist.
She'll support the release with a UK and Ireland tour in October, including stops in Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London. Tickets go on general sale at 9am on March 26.
