Soccer Mommy is taking us along for the ride in her time machine back to the '00s in the video for her new single, Rom Com 2004.
The Swiss-American indie-rocker (real name Sophie Allison) surprised fans on July 15 with her new single, and has now dropped an accompanying animated clip inspired by classic video games. A Nintendo Mii-style figure of Allison — complete with her trademark pigtails — is seen racing around the pixelated streets of a cartoon city, with the dulcet tones of Rom Com 2004 providing the soundtrack.
The song, which is the first release since her 2020 sophomore album 'Colour Theory', offers up Soccer Mommy's signature contrasting of anthemic pop choruses with gritty production and melancholic lyrics.
While Soccer Mommy will still tour North America in autumn 2021, Rom Com 2004 provides a dose of light relief to her UK fans after her show dates for earlier this year were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
