Nao Confirms September Release For Third Album 'And Then Life Was Beautiful', Shares Title Track

Thursday, 29 July 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Nao has announced her third studio album.

The follow-up to 2018's Mercury Prize and Grammy Award-nominated 'Saturn' is called 'And Then Life Was Beautiful' and will arrive on September 24.

The news follows the R&B artist's previous singles Messy Love, Antidote featuring Adekunle Gold, and her Lianne La Havas collaboration Woman. Other guests among the record's 13 tracks include serpentwithfeet and Lucky Daye.

As a further preview, the 33-year-old has released the LP's title track, a chilled song that finds her unique vocals taking centre stage over heavy synths and a simple drum pattern. She said:

"Life isn't perfect; we still go through ups and downs, but it can be beautiful as a whole. I do think it's a hopeful album, in an honest way – it's not shiny or all 'isn't this great!' and ‘party party party.' But it’s hopeful in that through every rough patch, every dark patch or struggle we always come out again. That’s what life is. You keep going. But most of all you try and step into a place of gratitude so that you can see life in all of its beauty."

Nao will exclusively perform songs from the record at Rough Trade East on its release day. Prior to that, she'll appear at the debut edition of YAM Carnival on Clapham Common, London in August.

'And Then Life Was Beautiful' tracklist:
