Johnny Depp And Jeff Beck Detail Collaborative LP '18', Share First Single

Friday, 10 June 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck have announced a collaborative album.

'18' was recorded over the past three years and will arrive on July 15. The news comes after Depp stunned guests at Beck's show in Sheffield in May, with the pair performing covers of songs by John Lennon, Marvin Gaye and Jimi Hendrix.

The actor also joined Beck at other gigs while waiting for the verdict in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. Beck commented:

"When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title too."

The album's lead single, This Is A Song For Miss Hedy Lamarr, which offers a Space Oddity-era David Bowie aesthetic, is one of two Depp originals on the 13-track record, which is largely a covers album. Beck added: "I was blown away by it. That song is one of the reasons I asked him to make an album with me."

Depp revealed: "It’s an extraordinary honour to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother."

Ahead of the LP’s release, the British blues-rock legend will kick off a round of European dates later in June.
