Boston Manor have announced their fourth studio album.
The follow-up to 2021's 'Desperate Times, Desperate Pleasure' EP is called 'Datura' and will arrive on October 14 via SharpTone Records. It'll feature the new single Passenger, which follows the previously unveiled cuts Foxglove, and the title track of sorts Datura (Dusk).
Combining the band's heavier elements and atmospheric melodies, the arena-ready song is propelled by a energetic groove and a passionate, sing-along chorus. Guitarist Mike Cunniff said of its process:
"It's really one of our favorite songs on the record. We've been jamming it in rehearsals a little bit and it just works so well live. It was a very stripped back approach to writing as well. We didn't want to put too much stuff in it, which kind of leaves us feeling a little bit vulnerable and naked onstage, when there's not too many things going on. It was the last song we wrote and recorded for the record, the final piece of the puzzle."
The LP was recorded in Brixton with Larry Hibbitt, the Hundred Reasons guitarist and vocalist-turned-producer. Cunniff added: "We didn’t really do any writing for almost all of 2020, and that gave us a bit of a reset. Through working with Larry, we found what we felt was the most concentrated essence of Boston Manor. The EP was the perfect jumping off point, and we wanted to carry on doing more of that. It feels a lot more refined – we wanted fewer songs so that we could be a lot more intentional."
The group will perform at 2000Trees festival on July 8, before supporting Alexisonfire across the UK and Europe in the autumn.
'Datura' tracklist:
1. Datura (Dusk)
2. Floodlights on the square
3. Foxglove
4. Passenger
5. Crocus
6. Shelter from the rain
7. Inertia
