The legendary folk-punk group confirmed the news with a post on Twitter yesterday (August 9), revealing that they were "saddened beyond words" to share that Hunt had died on Monday afternoon (August 8) in London.
The band shared a black and white photo of Hunt holding a guitar case, and paid tribute to him by tweeting the lyrics of their song Love You Till the End, which Hunt wrote.
The Pogues' frontman, Shane MacGowan, described Hunt on Twitter as a "great friend and a great bass player" in his own tribute to his late bandmate. "I am very very sorry that Darryl has passed on, he was a really nice guy and a great friend and a great bass player. We will all miss him."
Born in Hampshire in 1950, the musician and songwriter began playing bass in The Pogues in 1986 and featured in the band's material until their seventh and final LP, 'Pogue Mahone', in 1996.
We are saddened beyond words. Our Darryl passed away yesterday afternoon in London.
