Mötley Crüe guitarist and founding member Mick Mars has announced his retirement from touring.
In a statement provided to Variety, a representative for Mars (pictured: far right) stated that the guitarist can no longer tour due to his worsening degenerative disease Ankylosing Spondylitis. He will, however, remain a member of the legendary rock band. The full statement reads:
"Mick Mars, co-founder and lead guitarist of the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe for the past 41 years, has announced today that due to his ongoing painful struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.), he will no longer be able to tour with the band.
"Mick will continue as a member of the band, but can no longer handle the rigours of the road. A.S. is an extremely painful and crippling degenerative disease, which affects the spine."
With the recent announcement of a huge Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard 2023 tour, the former have confirmed that Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 will step in for the shows.
The World Tour kicks off in Mexico City on February 18, and heads to Europe in May, beginning with a date at Sheffield's Bramall Lane stadium, before further UK and Ireland gigs in the summer, including a London show at Wembley Stadium and a headline appearance at Lytham Festival on the Lancashire Coast in July. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time tomorrow (October 28).
UPDATE 12/01: The Scottish stop of the tour has been moved to Glasgow Green. Original tickets remain valid.
