PJ Harvey Details 10th LP 'I Inside The Old Year Dying', Shares New Song A Child's Question, August

PJ Harvey has announced her 10th studio album.

The follow-up to 2016's 'The Hope Six Demolition Project' is called 'I Inside The Old Year Dying' and will arrive on July 7 via Partisan.

Inspired by Nina Simone and Bob Dylan, Harvey revealed that she hopes it offers "a resting space, a solace, a comfort, a balm". She also said it feels "timely for the times we’re in."

According to Harvey, the album developed through "spontaneous performances" and was "recorded at the moment of their creation". She added: "The studio was set up for live play, and that’s all we did."

She explained: "I think the album is about searching, looking – the intensity of first love, and seeking meaning. Not that there has to be a message, but the feeling I get from the record is one of love – it’s tinged with sadness and loss, but it’s loving. I think that’s what makes it feel so welcoming: so open."

Recorded with long-time collaborators Flood and John Parish, the record will feature the newly shared single A Child's Question, August which follows a series of teasers shared by the double Mercury Prize-winning artist on social media. Dreamy, ethereal and stripped-back, the song comes with an accompanying video directed by Steve Gullick.

Harvey has recently been reissuing her discography, including b-sides, demos and rarities. In summer 2022, she shared a cover of Leonard Cohen's Who By Fire, which featured in Sharon Horgan's Bad Sisters series.
