Brittany Howard has announced her second solo album.
'What Now', the follow-up to 2019's 'Jaime', was recorded at the Sound Emporium and RCA Studio B in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. It'll arrive through Island Records, though a release date is still to be confirmed.
As a preview, the Alabama Shakes frontwoman has shared the record's title track, which is propelled by a subdued groove and funk-infused guitar riffs. It was co-produced by Howard and Shawn Everett, and comes paired with a video directed by Danilo Parra.
The song will be released as a 7″ single, backed by another new track, Meditation, on December 22. Head here for pre-orders. Howard said in a statement: "What Now is maybe the truest and bluest of all the songs. It’s never my design to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I needed to say what was on my mind without editing myself. I like how it’s a song that makes you want to dance, but at the same time the lyrics are brutal."
Howard has scheduled a fresh round of North American tour dates for February with her Bermuda Triangle bandmate Becca Mancari, following dates with L’Rain this November. Tickets for the new gigs go on sale at 10am local time on October 20.
