Pale Waves have announced their fourth studio album.

The follow-up to 2022's 'Unwanted' is titled 'Smitten' and will arrive through their long-time label home Dirty Hit Records on September 20.

Comprising 12 tracks written between the US and UK over a two-year period, the record finds the Manchester band reflecting upon their Northern roots, unpicking past lives while deviating from the pop-punk sound of its predecessor. Vocalist Heather-Baron Gracie commented:

"I found myself writing about not just a certain time period, but my whole life, from years ago. When I fall in love, I fall deep, and it’s interesting to me that you can feel so fascinated and smitten with someone and then they can become a total stranger. So I feel like 'Smitten really summarised perfectly what I felt for others at a certain point."

As a preview, the four-piece have shared the first single, Perfume, an '80s-inspired track that blends dark, gothy atmospherics and pure pop. Introducing it, the group said: "Perfume is the perfect introduction into the new world we’ve created. It’s queer, feminine and romantic and it encapsulates the essence of 'Smitten'."

Pale Waves are currently on the road in the US supporting PVRIS. They'll return to the UK for appearances at Kendal Calling in the Lake District, Cumbria and Y Not Festival in Pikehall, Derbyshire in August, and Neighbourhood Festival in Manchester in October.
