Big Sean has announced his new album.
After an apparent unfinished version of the project was leaked online by a disgruntled Kanye West fan last night (July 18), 'Better Me Than You' will be officially released by the Detroit rapper on August 9 via Def Jam Recordings.
The Grammy-nominated artist, who acknowledged the leak last night by releasing a minute-long snippet of a collaboration with producer The Alchemist, wrote on X:
"Might as well start droppin, before they leak it all, got damn. BIG SEAN x THE ALCHEMIST soon."
The leaker claimed to be following the controversial rapper Ye's orders in releasing the album ahead of schedule. It happened after Sean took shots at West in a recent On The Radar freestyle in response to his former mentor blasting him on a 2021 episode of Drink Champs. He claimed that signing Big Sean to GOOD Music was the worst thing he'd ever done.
Confirming the record's release date, Sean posted the following on X: "The 𝙋𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙎𝙐𝙍𝙀 of life (being a new dad, being an artist that’s growing, being a human in development etc.) and embracing it all led me to a lot of 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘 on what I needed to 𝐅𝐎𝐂𝐔𝐒 on to find a piece of 𝑯𝑨𝑷𝑷𝑰𝑵𝑬𝑺𝑺. The past few years making this album have been a journey to say the least, but I’m just glad we finally here [🌍]."
To coincide with his announcement, Big Sean has also shared a new single called Yes, which seemingly finds the rapper throwing more shade at his old label boss over chest-thumping bass and funk-infused guitars. It follows his March single Precision and his recent feature on Eminem's 'The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)' track Tobey.
Kanye fans really leaked Big Sean’s album all because that TDE informant DJBlowjob snitched on him 💀 He should’ve stood on business 😂 pic.twitter.com/OioiHg8vHh
