The rap superstar took to social media over the weekend to reveal that she intends to drop a new album instead of 'Gag City Reloaded', the previously announced deluxe edition of 'Pink Friday 2' that was expected last Friday (September 13).
She also promised to confirm the release date of the new project within the next few weeks and drop new music from it before then. In a lengthy post on X, she wrote:
"Instead of doing a DELUXE to Pink Friday 2, I’ve decided to do a brand new album.
"I’ll still incorporate new songs like #Mamita and [The “anxiety” song] for the remainder of the tour tho…and I’ll announce the new date within the next couple weeks. The new music is just too good to be thrown away on a deluxe album.
"Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic. I love you guys so much. You know that. I know you do. I’ll still give you something leading up to the announcement, so no worries."
Explaining that the new music is too good for a deluxe album, and it belongs as part of a "specific" tracklist, she added: "It’s just very special to me for so many reasons you guys aren’t aware of.
"I put every song on there in a specific order, etc. So to honor that, I’m going to give it the respect and integrity it deserves as a beautiful body of work and not add anything else to it. 1 or 2 songs is no big deal but 5-7 songs feels a little sloppy right now (In my humble opinion). (sic)"
Minaj released the star-studded 'Pink Friday 2' on December 8, 2023, 'Pink Friday 2 (Gag City Deluxe)' a week later, and 'Pink Friday 2 (Gag City PLUTO Edition)' this January. It followed her 2010 debut album, 'Pink Friday', and the 2012 follow-up 'Pink Friday... Roman Reloaded'.
She will continue the second North American leg of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour with a show in Dallas, Texas tomorrow (September 17).
