Mogwai have laid out plans for their 11th studio album.
The follow-up to 2021's chart-topping 'Love Conquers All' is titled 'The Bad Fire' and will arrive via their own Rock Action label on January 24.
Recorded with Grammy-winning producer John Congleton at Chem19 studios in Blantyre, Scotland, the record draws inspiration from some turbulent personal moments the Glasgow quartet have endured in recent years. They said:
"After the high of putting out 'As The Love Continues', the following years were personally hard for us. We’ve dealt with a lot of loss and in Barry’s case a serious family illness with one his daughters.
"Getting back together to write and record this record felt like a refuge and with John Congleton we feel that we’ve made something special.
"We often hear from people that our music has helped them get through hard times in their lives and for once I think it applies to us as well."
To coincide with the news, the band have shared a new song, Lion Rumpus, a bright, roaring soundscape of progressive guitar and robotic vocals.
Head below to view the accompanying video, directed by long-time collaborator Antony Crook, who helmed the group's 2024 documentary, Mogwai: If The Stars Had A Sound. The clip follows Glasgow-born Lawrence (Larry) Wilson who, after moving to New York, became a dog walker. The LP will also feature the six-minute track God Gets You Back, which arrived last month.
Mogwai will support 'The Bad Fire' with a UK and European tour in February, followed by dates in Asia and North American in the spring. Tickets are on sale now.
