Suzanne Vega has shared details of her first new album in over a decade.
The American singer-songwriter will release 'Flying With Angels' on May 2, marking her first full-length release of original music since 2014's 'Tales From The Realm of the Queen of Pentacles'. Confirming the news with a post on social media, Vega wrote:
"'Flying With Angels' is my first studio album of new songs in eleven years. Each song on the album takes place in an atmosphere of struggle. Struggle to survive, to speak, to dominate, to win, to escape, to help someone else, or just live."
Alongside the announcement, Vega has shared a socially-charged acoustic track, Speakers’ Corner, an ode to the traditional public space where free speech open-air public speaking, debate and discussion are allowed. Check out the accompanying animated video by Michael Arthur below. Vega continued:
"That’s something you don’t want in democracy: the shutting down of the Speakers' Corner where people get a say. This is a moment in time when people are saying a lot, but sometimes they’re not making sense or not telling the truth. People should be accountable for what they say. They can’t just lie. One would think that that would be self-evident."
Speakers' Corner follows on from her 2024 single Rats, her first new song in eight years, which also appears on the record.
She'll support the LP with new UK tour dates between October 19 and November 3, with support from Katherine Priddy. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (March 7). She also has European shows in the diary for the autumn.
In the meantime, she'll kick off a previously scheduled North American tour with a performance in East Greenwich, Rhode Island tonight (March 6). Tickets for those dates are on sale now.
