Produced by Dan Nigro, the country-pop track marks the first new music from the American singer since her 2024 one-off single, Good Luck, Babe!. She said:
"I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores, and karaoke bars. Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is…right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all."
Alongside the release of The Giver, Roan will drop five 7" limited edition vinyl records, each featuring alternate artwork of Roan as different characters, including a lawyer, dentist, plumber and private investigator, mirroring the billboards in US cities that teased the single.
Roan released her debut studio album, 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess', back in 2023. In February, she won Best New Artist at the 67th Grammy Awards Ceremony. She also triumphed in the International Artist and International Song categories at the BRIT Awards earlier this month.
