Peter Doherty has released another early single from his upcoming album.
Melodic with story-telling lyricism, The Day The Baron Died marks the third preview of 'Felt Better Alive', following cut Calvados and the title track. He said:
"I always thought it was a weird jazz number, with a silly, catchy little melody. It’s a kind of homage to [John Lennon’s] Instant Karma, not the lyrics but the weird off time drum fill in the chorus. And I’m not gonna explain what the song’s about because I’m working on a follow up!"
Head below to view the song's accompanying gothic video, which was shot at The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman's home in Normandy, and directed by filmmaking duo Thad and Numa.
Doherty's first solo record in nine years is due out on May 16 via his own Strap Originals label. A new 7" vinyl single featuring two exclusive non-album songs, Océan and Honky Noir, is also available to pre-order as a bundle with the new album.
In other news, Doherty has revealed that The Smiths' drummer Mike Joyce will be joining his solo band on select upcoming shows in Europe and the UK.
Following his European dates, he'll play a Spotlight Show at Brighton's The Great Escape Festival on May 14 showcasing his Strap Originals label, before celebrating the album at in-store gigs in Leeds, Liverpool, Nantwich, Kingston and London between May 16 and 21.
He'll also perform at In It Together festival in South Wales next month, ahead of appearances at Together Again in Cheshire in July, and Sheffield's Don Valley Bowl in August as part of the Rock N Roll Circus series. Tickets are on sale now.
