You have to give The XX credit for slight intrigue. Unless someone’s said it to you, you don’t know how to say their name, which could lead to an embarrassing faux par at a cool gathering. Are they ‘the ex ex’, ‘the double ex’, ‘the double kiss’, ‘the kiss kiss’, is it roman numerals, are they ‘The Twenty’? You might never know until they’re actually announced on tour. "Now on stage, It's the Cross Crosses!" Click here for tickets.
The XX have confirmed a series of UK shows for early next year. Only just twenty when they formed and having met at the same school that gave us Hot Chip, Four Tet and Burial, the band have created a name for themselves with covers in their own inimitable style and excellent original tracks
They’re described by the beeb as “a fridge chilled mix of the The Kills, Velvet Underground and Sleater-Kinney”. I thought they were very Beck-like with a hint of an extremely chilled Mr Bungle, but then I was listening to the wrong band.
Word to the wise ‘The London-based ‘The XX’ are a different band to the Texan ‘XX’ (who are also actually pretty good but need to extract themselves from Beck’s anus asap).
So, having actually listened to ‘The XX’, I can confirm they’re Indie with a hint of the hip-hop, chilled, quite weird and very good but then you probably know that already.
These are the dates they’re touring.
