Hard drivin’, hard bluesin’, named after a hippy-hating PE teacher, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, Southern rock icons extraordinaire have announced a UK run for next March. Having signed a deal with Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records, the indomitable band released their new album ‘Gods & Guns’ to critical acclaim in September and are touring in support. Thanks to brilliant reviews and UK radio support, the album’s first week sales were an impressive 997% up on their last album’s figure. ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ may also have had something to do with it.
The creation of ‘Gods & Guns’ was interrupted by the deaths of founding member Billy Powell and longtime bassist Ean Evans. In typical Lynyrd Skynyrd spirit, this did not stop them and the band are definitely back with a vengeance!
Recent times have also been good to the Skynyrd with a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, their American rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama” passed the 2 million mark in downloaded ringtones in the US and last summer, the band co-headlined one of the most successful US tours of the year with Kid Rock.
Unbowed, the legendary band with a tragic past are still playing and are coming soon to a stadium near you.
