Continuing with Stereoboard.com’s coverage of the serious accident involving Weezer’s tour bus and Rivers Cuomo. Whilst the band recovers from the shock of the crash, it has now emerged that singer Rivers Cuomo is suffering from a punctured lung and cut spleen.

Weezer, one of the most popular bands of their generation and loved by fans worldwide returned this year with new album ‘Raditude’ delighting fans with its self deprecating alternative rock charm.

The band hit the road, touring the album across North America when half way through the exhausting tour a serious accident involving the tour bus occurred. Sunday morning, December 6th, whilst travelling through New York State, the group’s tour bus hit a patch of ice and slid off the highway.

The American geek rock icons were left shocked following the crash, with singer River Cuomo taken to hospital with rib pains having been trapped inside the bus and freed by emergency services using mechanical jaws. As a result the ‘Raditude’ tour has now been cancelled.

A new posting from the bands MySpace page has revealed the severity of front man River Cuomo’s injuries.

“Rivers’ internal injuries included both a small cut on his spleen and a small puncture in his lung. An internal cut needs to be carefully monitored to see if it is healing up or not. The lung puncture was small so the lung did not fully collapse, and thus no surgery was needed for that, but it also has to be monitored carefully.”

“He (Rivers Cuomo) went from being barely able to talk and open his eyes yesterday to partially sitting up, talking clearly, reading books and checking the internet,” the band explained. “Plus his colour and energy seemed much brighter.”

All upcoming Weezer tour dates have been cancelled.
