Wild Beasts

The Wild Beasts sound like what a sound technician might dream about after eating a packet of Cheesos too many. They’re a little odd, slightly ambient, vaguely indie, a touch gothy and a lot of other things beside, including nuts. Click Here to Compare & Buy Wild Beasts Tickets

They started out in 2002, originally called ‘Fauve’ which is French for ‘Wild Beast’ and the name of an art movement. They changed their name into English after a while and set out to confuse, delight and split the music world. They managed it too.

Their main vocalist, Hayden Thorpe, is a ridiculous, operatically shrieking lunatic while guitarist, Tom Fleming, sings like a Northern postman lamenting a soggy periodical. Their musical styles can veer between Radiohead and Noel Coward in the same song. If a band set out to be willfully hard to classify, they’d be hard pressed to outdo Wild Beasts.

On one hand, they appear to take themselves very seriously. On the other hand, they name their songs things like ‘The Devil’s Crayon’, ‘Brave Bulging Clairvoyants’ and ‘She purred, while I Grrred’. There’s a tongue in someone’s cheek somewhere; upper or lower is anyone’s guess.

Now onto their second album and ever-growing success, Wild Beasts are a band that… well, listen to them for yourself and make your own mind up.
