Fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be left stunned today, after reports have emerged that guitarist John Frusciate has quit the band.
The guitar wizard, Frusciate, has been a key man in creating some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers greatest songs, songs that are capable of shifting from funk to metal effortlessly within the blink of an eye. The musician lifted the group to greater heights and played an essential role in what many call, the bands greatest album, the much loved ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’. However soon after the release of the album Fruciante departed to battle heroin addiction. Later, reuniting with the group having beaten the drugs, the Chilis enjoyed another huge rise in popularity.
With the Chilis currently taking a break from recording, it seems that this time John Frusciate has no intention of reuniting with the group. Widespread reports within the media have claimed that the guitarist has left the band and his position is currently being filled by Josh Klinghoffer.
MusicRadar reported that a source close to the band explained, “Josh Klinghoffer has been playing with the group a couple of months now. Optimistically, the Peppers are trying to lock down a replacement for John who has apparently quit. Mentally John checked out a long time ago. He’s interested in doing his own thing, his own albums – the whole big rock band machinery just doesn’t appeal to him anymore.”
Since the announcement of a hiatus back in 2007 the members of Red Hot Chili Peppers have all taken very different routes. Drummer Chad Smith became part of super group Chickenfoot and bassist Flea hooked up with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke for some solo work shortly after graduating from music college.
Klinghoffer is no stranger to the Chilis, he has already toured extensively with the band and has worked with big names such as Perry Farrell, Tricky, PJ Harvey and Neon Neon.
