With the release of computer game ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ behind us, it has now emerged that American superstar punks Green Day are set to launch their own version of the game.

Green Day are now thought of as one of the biggest bands in the world. Starting out by selling their early albums from the back of their tour van, the band has now had success for over 20 years in the music industry. The band kept up appearances this year with the release of their unrestrained, ambitious concept album ‘21st Century Breakdown’.

Later launching their own musical ‘American Idiot’, Green Day, after smashing the music charts over and over again, have decided to branch out into video games. Following in the footsteps of the fab four, The Beatles, the punk trio have confirmed plans that they will launch their own version of Rock Band.

Green Day Rock Band Game

The game, due for release in 2010, will feature tracks throughout the bands 22 year history and will allow fans to play songs in a number of venues from the band’s touring history. Beginning with West Coast sweat-pits other venues could include Milton Keynes Bowl where Green Day gigged one of the biggest shows of their career.

Reported that the band are due to return to the UK in 2010 with a series of stadium shows, Green Day will be launching the Rock Band game across top gaming consoles Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

When asked about the release of the game, singer Billie Jo Armstrong explained to BBC Newsbeat. “We want people to fire this up, choose their favourite Green Day tracks and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what its like to perform on stage as Green Day.”

The Rock Band game was originally launched in 2007 and has become one on the world’s most popular games. Since then other bands such as AC/DC and The Beatles have signed up for the Rock Band treatment and given their songs for fans to play along with on the game.
