Kasabian’s Tom Meighan has blamed social blogging on the internet for “killing” the mystique of a rock star.
Talking to Bang Showbiz, the outspoken singer has expressed his dismay at blogging sites like Twitter allowing artists to reveal too much. Meighan believes there are no iconic musicians left “like what it used to be in rock’n’roll.”
He added “In the 60s and 70s you had the likes of David Bowie and Marc Bolan...in the 90s you had the Britpop revival. I think – especially in the last three or four years – the internet’s taken a stranglehold and killed off the myth of the rock star now. You know when you used to buy the records and there was a myth behind them?”
The frontman concluded: “There are so many rock stars writing these self pitying blogs and I think it’s killed it off.”
His band are up for six awards at this weekend’s Shockwaves NME Awards, including Best Band, Best Album and Best Live Band. To read Tom’s thoughts on the coming ceremony, go to Meighan’s Blog at www.notafuc...
