Mavis Staples is a gospel singer and civil rights activist from Chicago, Illinois.
She first emerged onto the music scene as part of The Staple Singers in the 1950s, eventually moving into a solo career in the late '60s. She has released a total of 13 studio albums to date—the most recent being 'We Get By' in 2019—and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017, and has won three Grammys. Mavis Staples will play two nights at London's Union Chapel in June 2024, following a run of US shows, and European dates in the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
