Arcade Fire Team Up With Google To Release Stunning Interactive Video

Candian epic-indie collective Arcade Fire have unleashed a superb interactive video for their first single ‘We Used To Wait’ from new album ‘The Suburbs’.

“The Wilderness Downtown” is the title of the video, taking its name from a lyric featured in ‘We Used To Wait’, the first song taken from the group’s acclaimed latest album ‘The Suburbs’. Directed by Chris Milk, famed for his previous work with Kanye West and U2, the video was made with the help of an unusual collaborator. Google Chrome.

Using some of the very latest computer wizardry, this new video gives the viewer a very unique experience indeed. “The Wilderness Downtown” uses very clever technology, in the shape of ‘Google Chrome’ and HTML5, to allow users to revisit some childhood memories while watching the visuals.

Here’s how it works, prior to the video kicking-off the user is asked to input their childhood address and then – providing it is available via Google Street View – get ready for a surreal experience with the cueing of multiple browser windows opening, in sync with the Arcade Fire’s music, detailing some places you might find very familiar.

There is a small drawback to some however, the video requires a high-speed internet connection and the film advises users to install the Google Chrome browser before watching the video. If you try to run the video on another be prepared for an exercise in patience and a lot of crashes. Besides that, if you get five minutes, go try it! Its fantastic!
