In terms of boybands, The Wanted have always faced some stiff competition. As if breaking the British market wasn’t tough enough, the band also have to fend off the likes of JLS, Westlife and now Take That if they want to hold their own in the big league. However, apparently British shores aren’t a big enough target for the band, who have this week signed a deal with Amercian music giant Def Jam Records.
The band have been added to the extensive Def Jam roster, which currently features major artists such as Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Ne-Yo and Ludacris. In an interview with a British magazine, singer Max George was keen to confirm the news: "We've just signed a record deal to Def Jam in America and we're going over there in January."
The boyband had to perform in front of Def Jam president David Massey before he was convinced that they were worth signing. "We sang an acoustic version of All Time Low in his office. I was shaky and I remember by the end, my guitar playing and singing were completely out of synch", George added.
The Wanted are currently promoting their album, and have plotted out a UK tour for next spring. You can watch the video for The Wanted’s latest single ‘Heart Vacancy’ below:
