British solo artist Mike Marlin has released a video for his new single ‘The Magician’, the first track to be taken from his forthcoming album ‘Man on the Ground’. The single is due for release on 17th October. ‘Man on the Ground’ is the follow-up to Marlin’s debut album ‘Nearly Man’, which was released earlier this year and featured the single ‘Play That Game’.
Speaking about ‘The Magician’, Marlin said: “We know that magic is an illusion created by skill and trickery, but we agree to believe and applaud when the magician deceives us. The contract is unspoken but simple: ‘Lie to me, but don't let me down.’ The song is about the unspoken agreements in all relationships, or at least in the ones that work.”
Following the release of ‘Nearly Man’ in February, Mike Marlin performed at HMV’s Next Big Thing festival and went on tour with The Stranglers and Big Country. The new video for ‘The Magician’ features some actual magicians playing poker around a table.
Mike Marlin was born in Wimbledon in the ‘60s and has spent the last 25 years writing songs and making music. In his earlier years, he was the bass player for a number of bands that never made it. Speaking about those days, Mike said: “I'd write songs and stand at the back playing bass. There is no comparison between playing bass in a band and being the frontman. You may be only four feet away in terms of where you're standing, but it's a hundred-million miles away.”
