Folk rock singer-songwriter Paul Simon has announced to fans that he’ll be touring his seminal album ‘Graceland’ to celebrate 25 years since it hit #1 in the UK.
The record, which came out in 1986, is one of his best-selling albums and is considered by hundreds of thousands of his fans to be his best. So in celebration, Simon, 69, will be hitting the road once again to bring the sounds of the LP to your ears once again – and he’s hoping he’ll be able to hook up with all the musicians, artists and singers who worked with him in previous years.
And, to go with the forthcoming tour, he revealed that a documentary about the album will be released as a box-set along with a concert performance DVD, which was filmed at a gig in South Africa alongside Hugh Masekela and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
“The documentary took me back to the artistic aspects and the political aspects of making Graceland and the controversy that surrounded it and how it was resolved, plus what remains of it and what we learn from it,” Simon revealed.
The album really was a massive hit when it came back, selling 14,000,000 copies worldwide as well as earning the star a prestigious Grammy award for record of the year.
Dates haven’t yet been set for the forthcoming tour – but Stereoboard will be the first to fill you in when they get announced.
