Harlem-based hip-hopper A$AP Rocky has claimed that if rappers and artists don’t start accepting open sexuality and stop discriminating against those with different sexual orientations, then the ‘genre will fail’.
Rocky is a heterosexual himself but feels that his genre is particularly homophobic, and claims that hip-hop is ‘so retarded’ compared to pop, which ‘doesn’t discriminate against people’. And, he believes that if certain rappers don’t stop their ‘close-minded’ ways, then the genre itself will collapse.
“I'm not saying that hip-hop needs gay rappers or anything, but they need to stop being so close-minded because that will just cause the genre to fail,” he told news website Spinner. “Who gives a fuck? I like women. I love women. I'm not going to not be your friend because you like men. As long as you're a great person and, aside from that, y'know, you don't bother me and make me uncomfortable, then let's be friends, dude.”
