Swedish drum and bass master Seba has confirmed the release date of the first sampler from his forthcoming new album, out on his own label Secret Operations - aka Secops.
The two-sided single features tracks ‘Too Much Too Soon’ - featuring fellow Swede Josefine Jinder on vocals - and ‘Say You Love Me’, and both are a brilliant taste of what’s to come when the producer (real name Sebastian Ahrenberg) drops his album next year.
Both tracks are a showcase of how far Seba has come since his first release ‘Sonic Winds’ hit shelves via Good Looking Records back in 1996, and also immediately show us that he’s still got the magic which helped him earn the title of ‘master’ in the first place.
The A-side ‘Too Much Too Soon’ is a stunning track filled with pop-rock guitars, melodic synth loops, uplifting build-ups, and simply beautiful vocals courtesy of Jinder. Perhaps not the track for a 3-4am set at a jump-up night, this isn’t rewind material, but you will find yourself hitting repeat many a time - be it for the whole track or simply the catchy vocals.
I instantly got the impression that ‘Too Much Too Soon’ wouldn’t sound out of place in the UK Singles chart - and not because it’s a mainstream drum and bass production straight out of Fresh’s production line, but because it’s simply a wonderful track that anyone - not just a drum and bass lover - could hear and fall in love with.
The flipside, ‘Say You Love Me’, was apparently inspired by some hardcore rinsing of deep house pioneer Larry Heard. The rolling drums are accompanied by a bouncy acid bassline, while moody pianos and synths sit nicely with the melancholy vocal cut that creeps into the track sporadically.
Needless to say, Seba has been including these tracks in his sets recently, while the likes of superstar DJs Marky, A-Sides, and Marcus Intalex have all got this in their bags too. And, from December 17th onwards, so can you. You can check out previews of the tracks now below - let us know what you think of the tracks, and make sure you grab a copy if you like them!
