Amy Winehouse, Led Zeppelin, And More In Running For Camden Walk Of Fame Spot

Late soul singer Amy Winehouse is one of the names that’s been suggested for a brand new Music Walk of Fame in Camden, after it was announced that the London borough would be twinned with the glitzy district of Hollywood.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is known across the world, and a place on it is one of the highest honours a celebrity can receive. Now that it’s being twinned with Camden, London officials will be creating their own Walk of Fame - and there’s a number of artists in the running for a spot.

Split into five categories - ‘innovative artists, influential artists, icons, unsung heroes and industry figures’ - the Walk of Fame will be laid this summer, with 30 acts and artists already shortlisted. That includes Amy Winehouse, Madness, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and more.

Also said to be in the running for a disc are the likes of Frank Sinatra, Gil Scott-Heron, Grandmaster Flash, Soul II Soul, The Doors, Nile Rodgers, Elvis Presley, Blur, and many more. More plates will be laid down in September.

Speaking to The BBC, music promoter Lee Bennett said: “We hope this will be the highest accolade in music. This is an international brand not specific to Camden, but it is in Camden as we truly see it as the world's rock and roll capital.”

Telling of how the idea came about, he revealed: “We were walking through Hollywood and [10 year-old son] Adam asked 'why don't we have this in the UK?’ I thought what is the UK's most exciting big export? It's music. We should host the Music Walk of Fame.”

He even added that he’d ‘like to get bands who have split up back together again’ should they receive a plaque on the walk - meaning there could be hope for the likes of Oasis and The Smiths fans if they’re honoured with a spot on the walk.

What do you think of the idea - is it about time we had a Music Walk of Fame here in the UK? Let us know your opinion in the comment section below.
