Peter Hook, former bassist and founding member of New Order, has claimed that a collection of some of the band’s lost tapes are being ‘held for ransom’ by the former assistant of late producer Martin Hannett.
The band released their last album ‘Lost Sirens’ back in January but according to Hook, who actually left the band back in 2007, there’s another collection of New Order material out there which they want back, reports The Guardian.
A series of master tapes are allegedly in the possession of Julia Adamson, who has reportedly rejected a ‘finder’s fee’ (which includes a percentage of profits related releases) from the band to hand them over.
Hook reckons that the tapes, which Adamson apparently ‘rescued’ from presumably the bins of Martin Hannett, who produced a load of New Order music and whom Adamson worked with, are being held for ransom by the 52-year-old.
Adamson is trying to sell the collection she has but having rejected a seemingly rather generous offer, it now looks like she’ll be facing a court case with Warner Music. Hook told the The Guardian:
“Warner have gone, 'Right, you had your chance'. Record companies can't afford to lay out the money for these pots of gold because they cannot make the money back. The only thing we will hope for is that Rapunzel will let down her hair, and I will climb up and rescue the tapes. Can you imagine me and [New Order frontman Bernard Sumner] on your white chargers, charging down together?”
