Tim Burgess Announced As Ambassador For Independent Venue Week 2017

Tuesday, 29 November 2016 Written by Laura Johnson

Tim Burgess is the ambassador for next year's Independent Venue Week.

The Charlatans frontman, solo artist and author, takes over from 2016's ambassadors, Wolf Alice. Discussing the driving forces behind the event, he said:

"Independent venues are where every band starts and where music fans get to see emerging talent. Without them bands would not get a chance for their all-important first hometown gigs and subsequent tours. These venues and bands need our support and the best way you can do that is by having a night out. Lots of venues are closing – we definitely need to stick together and stop this happening."

Gigs will run between January 23 and January 29 in 120 venues across the UK, with Burgess kicking things off with a show at the Royal Albert Hall's Elgar Room on January 23. Support will come from Tear and Pheromoans.

Also confirmed for the line up are Richard Hawley, Cass McCombs, Cabbage, Martha Wainwright, Dream Wife, Flamingods, Beans On Toast, Nashville Pussy, Legends of Goldie Looking Chain, Black Peaks, Mandolin Orange and Allusondrugs, among many others.
