Following the previously shared Wasted On You, the soaring The Game Is Over unwraps around a series of chugging guitar riffs, which support a powerhouse performance from vocalist Amy Lee. Give it a spin below.
Lee said:
“This song is about being sick of the facade. The disguises we wear for others to make them feel comfortable, the inside feelings being so different than what we show on the outside to fit within the boundaries of what’s socially acceptable, or what’s not going to make you unpleasant or too ‘weird’ to be around.
“The Game is Over is a promise to myself and out loud that I’m going to be more of my real, inner self on the outside–not lock her up because she can’t be contained anymore. It’s also a prayer to become better, to not feel so messed up, locked up, and hurt inside.”
The dark alt-rock track is the second to be lifted from the goth-rockers' forthcoming LP, 'The Bitter Truth', which they will continue to release incrementally throughout 2020. The new album will mark the first full-length effort from Evanescence since 2017's 'Synthesis'.
Evanescence recently rescheduled the UK and European leg of their co-headline Worlds Collide Tour with Within Temptation to autumn 2021 in response to COVID-19. Original tickets will be honoured, and remaining tickets are on sale now.
