Thurston Moore Announces Ninth Solo Album 'Flow Critical Lucidity'

Thursday, 20 June 2024 Written by Jon Stickler

Thurston Moore has announced his ninth solo album.

The former Sonic Youth frontman will release 'Flow Critical Lucidity' on September 20 via his own Daydream Library Series label.

Recorded in 2022, between La Becque in Switzerland and Total Refreshment Studios in London, it includes contributions from his group comprising bassist Deb Googe, Jem Doulton on percussion, James Sedwards on guitar and piano, and Jon Leidecker on electronics.

As a preview, Moore has unveiled Sans Limites, a minimalist track that features backing vocals from Stereolab's Lætitia Sadier. It'll be joined on the record by the previously shared cuts Isadora and Rewilding. Moore commented:

"Sans Limites begins with a cyclic guitar and piano figure which expands further and further with each revolution before settling into a two-chord measure introducing lyrics intoning not only about eradicating any limitations towards enlightenment, but going beyond limitations. The idea that a soldier can fight the good fight. A warrior against war."

Moore will appear at Kongsberg Festival in Norway and Way Out West Festival in Sweden in July and August, respectively. His last album was 2022's 'Screen Time'.

'Flow Critical Lucidity' tracklist:

1. New in Town
2. Sans Limites
3. Shadow
4. Hypnogram
5. We Get High
6. Rewilding
7. The Diver
