Returning from their spectacular Friday evening set at this year’s Glastonbury 40th anniversary bash, Mumford & Sons have already begun talks about the release of their next album.
Having played one of the most talked about gigs of the Somerset festival, Mumford & Sons popular folk track ‘The Cave’ possibly formed one of the biggest sing-a-longs of the weekend.
Having returned from Worthy Farm, speaking to BBC’s Radio 1 Newsbeat, band accordian player Ben Lovett explained as to where the next album could be heading, describing the sound as “more urgent”.
“We're always writing. We're going to evolve as we did whilst making this album. It's hard to say as we've got a lot of touring ahead of us and we write a lot on the road."
And that they do - touring almost non-stop since the release of their debut track ‘Sign No More’ in 2009, Lovett explained that the life on the road will heavily influence the group’s future lyrics.
"It's kind of tough. As amazing as the life (on the road) is, you spend a lot of time away from home as well. A lot of the first album we were at home. This time we've been away from our loved ones and our families - I think there's a bit of rock and roll to express through that."
So, perhaps something a bit more up-tempo is to be expected from Mumford & Sons’ next offering? The four-piece now have a series of festival appearances to play through before returning to the studio, the Oxford group play T In The Park as well as Reading and Leeds festivals later this summer.
