Alice in Chains are an alternative metal band from Seattle, Washington.
Formed in 1987, they released 1990's 'Facelift', 1992's 'Dirt' and 1995's self-titled LP. The group then entered a hiatus, remaining mostly inactive between 1996 and 2002, putting out two live albums, including the successful 'Unplugged', and three compilations, before the death of lead singer Layne Staley in 2002. In 2005, the band reunited with new vocalist William DuVall, and released 'Black Gives Way to Blue' in 2009. That was followed by 'The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here' in 2013, and 'Rainier Fog' in 2018. The band's efforts have seen them awarded some of the highest honours in music, including nine Grammy nominations.
